Announcements were made, people flocked to the Expo grounds in droves, feet shuffled in excited anticipation. Merky took the stage, women swooned while men silently clenched their fists in envy. Everyone’s favorite celebrity, sweet Debbydo, stood next to him in her extravagant Expo finery.
Merky’s opening speech was short and to-the-point:
The Opening Speech
“Welcome to the very first ever “Rockets & Sprockets” Sci-Fi Mini-Expo!
Myself, Debbydo, and Kirk Wingtips are delighted to be here with you today in celebration of science fiction and fantasy and the wonderful creativity in Second Life!
Our main aim for the Expo is to support The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life of Second Life and help raise money for support programs and services for cancer survivors and caregivers to help in prevention and early detection, and to fund vital cancer research as we move forward toward finding a cure.
Whatever scifi franchise is your favorite, I’m sure you can think of a few actors/actresses who have lost their lives to cancer… DeForest Kelley, Majel Barrett, Richard Hatch, Alan Rickman, Alec Guinness, Wes Craven, Andreas Katsulas, John Hurt, Elisabeth Sladen, Peter Cushing….
So please help by donating at kiosks all around the Expo-grounds and join in the events we have planned.
So without further ado, we hereby declare the first ever “Rockets & Sprockets” Sci-Fi Mini-Expo officially open!”
And with that, the stage was handed over to the always popular spinner of Psy-Trance tunes, DJ Puddles, who regaled her appreciative audience with spooky Halloween techno music for the next two-and-a-half hours.
At the height of the festivities, we had humans, aliens, Ponies and even robots all dancing under the big central dome.
We’d like to thank everyone that came out today to help us launch what is sure to be a very successful Expo! THANKS!!!
